ATA 18th Terrier Specialty, Friday, August 29, 2014
With 70 terrier entries in Conformation, Sweepstakes, Obedience and Rally we really enjoyed this Specialty. Unfortunately, our selected conformation judge, Robert D. Black was unable to come to judge for us because of a serious health problem. However, we were able to persuade the great judge Margaret Jones of British Columbia to judge our terriers.
We did have three wonderful judges, with Lendra Barker judging Sweeps, Margaret Jones judging Conformation, and Michael Calhoun from Quebec judging Obedience and Rally.
Conformation had 18 breeds competing. There were some great dogs present. The Specialty winner was the wonderful male Airedale, Am and Can Ch Regalridge Sound Investment, CGN, owned by our President Dawn Tufts, her husband Jim and the breeders Ken Curran and Lee Steeves. In second place was a lovely Wire Fox Terrier owned by Geri Mendes. Third place was a wonderful Lakeland Terrier owned by American Maria Sacco who showed the dog. Fourth place was the Welsh Terrier owned by Chantelle Marshall and Ken and Lee and exhibited by Chantelle.
Rally and Obedience were judged by wonderful Mike Calhoun. What a great time! In Rally all but two of the entrants passed the levels they entered. There were seven Border Terriers entered in Rally who did very well. The Australian Terriers owned by Lois Fiander and Heather Cook seemed to really enjoy themselves in the ring. The entry also included Welsh, Airedale, and Bedlington Terriers who showed their stuff.
Of course, very sad and inspiring for all was the memorial to Shelagh Kelsey, who was a great member of the ATA until her early death in 2013. There were speeches, remembrances and tributes to Shelagh and her many contributions to the ATA.
After the great Specialty many ATA members, exhibitors and our judges had a great meal at Ela! the Greek Taverna near the judging area. We had a wonderful live auction at the dinner, organized by the artist Linda Martin.
